Valentines day...you either love it or hate it...right?
I have to say I'm undecided. I loathe the dreaded search for a decent card, trawling through all the mushy sayings and pet names, I feel physically sick. A card saying 'You'll do' is all I need to say.
The truth is this will be the 3rd Valentines day I've celebrated and yes, it's a nice way to celebrate being together, but shouldn't you be doing that everyday? Isn't Valentines day just a day for card shops to make more money in between christmas and mother's day?
I'm not entirely cynical, promise. Last year my boyfriend asked me to meet me in town, where he'd made me a treasure hunt of clues and gifts etc. all dotted around in places that were significant to us as a couple. There was the cinema we went to for our first date, a quiet place we'd often sit and talk, the first expensive restaurant he took me to and the church we attend together.
I love how it gives you an excuse to do something together, to make the effort to go out for dinner instead of arguing who cooks, but how do you feel when you're single? Why is there no day to celebrate being single? Or even to celebrate being yourself, loving yourself? For singletons, Valentines day could decrease confidence and make you feel damn right crap about yourself..(I'm thinking a Bridget Jones type rendition of 'All by Myself' here.) Valentines day seems to mke out you're sad if you're single, which could not be further from the truth. Really Valentines should be about celebrating having love in our lives from our family and friends.

Beyonce at the super bowl!
After her shock lip synching at Obama's inauguration, Beyonce seems to have...at the Super Bowl.
Beyonce admitted to miming her songs at the inauguration on the grounds that she 'Is a perfectionist' and did not have enough time to practice, she wanted to make Obama and the country proud, and felt her only option was to mime.
I absolutely love Beyonce, but I have to admit I was disappointed when I heard she'd mimed. On one hand I kind of see her point, as a singer myself I know how difficult it is to sing with little practice! But it is her full time (ish) job and with the amazing voice she has, I'm sure her 'worst' performance would still be amazing to us! What's worse - a bad performance or to be remembered as obviously miming?
Beyonce is such an inspiration to so many, certainly me! I love her independence, her body and style, not to mention her voice and songs! But I do feel she may have let a few fans down by miming, especially as she is usually so professional and amazing!
However, she certainly restored fan's faith in her success in her Super Bowl performance. In an admittedly small and revealing garment, Beyonce still managed to look stunning. She performed 'Love on Top' and 'Halo' as well as 'Single Ladies (Put a ring on it)' with the help of former bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
Everyone makes mistakes, and I doubt Beyonce's fans will have been put off by that one performance. Beyonce is and always will be a true professional; churning out albums, doing more showstopping performances whilst still maintaining her to die for figure, even a year after having her baby, Blue Ivy.
Over and out,
Number one Beyonce fan.(Always)
